Daniel Lawton
Ginkgo – Ginkgo biloba
As the Ginkgo tree is a tree native to China, I wanted to capture elements of the culture whilst also infusing my own influence into the piece. To inspire this sound, I explored timbre and pentatonic harmony with my own synthesised sounds and recordings that I took around the tree. I then used certain audio effects to create the shimmering textures and drone-like nature of the piece to conjure up feelings of age and tranquility.
Daniel Lawton is a composer from The Wirral in his fourth year at the RCM studying for a BMus (Composition). His interest in sampling ambience and portraying them in musical contexts has motivated the electronic compositions he has written so far. His music is also greatly inspired by groove and the harmonic vocabulary found in jazz.
